Training approach

MONDAY 3rd DECEMBER - 31 weeks to go

Weight : 16st 1lbs (-0lbs)
Body fat : 30.0% (-0.6)
Miles last week : 80 (50 road, 30 indoor)

Hmmm, weight stalled a bit, not a good sign with Christmas coming up. Need to break that 16st barrier permanantly.

However, good cycling - out with Rupert on Sunday in the pouring rain, would have been easy to call it off but we feel pretty pleased with ourselves for doing it. On to Wiggle today for some wet weather gear! And for our friends on the West Coast, here's a picture of Rupert in the rain, does not convey the full horror of the situation, but should give you an idea.

Very windy too, pretty scary with side winds realise my bike handling skills not all they should be. Have been worrying about the ascents on the Etape, now starting worrying about the descents as well...

Training approach

So, need to put a bit of science behind all this. Basically, my approach is to loose weight and do more and more cycling. However, reading The Cyclysts Training Bible, I realise there is more to it than that. However, I think I am starting from a low base, so until the end of the year its all about trying to loose weight and put in the mileage. Then, I'll set about drawing up a proper training plan.

But one thing is certain, its going to include a number of cyclosportive trips - one of which is the Tour of Ireland, four glorious days in May, starting near Belfast and ending up in Dublin. With the final night being in Kilkenny!

So how do you cope with the wet - do you have special tyres?
Very wet here, so went running instead. What's it like doing the indoors stuff?
